A recommendation engine for television shows

Asking for a friend. Is there a recommendation engine for television shows that you use and get good results from? I suggested that my friend ask Metafilter for recommendations, but he said that wouldn't work for him. He just wants recommendations powered by algorithms, he doesn't want to try asking people online. Also he is not a Netflix member and doesn't want to sign up.

jinni did this for TV and movies as recently as 2 months ago and was really really good at it. Something has happened (they were bought, maybe?) since then, and their searching tool is either deeply buried or no longer publicly available. Not sure what's going on.

I'm posting it here just in case anyone knows a little bit more and can find the recommendation engine again.

TasteKid is user-generated recs. Click on a show, then click on 'shows like this' under the preview.

Response by poster: Wikipedia says Jinni has moved into a different business and no longer provides recommendations. I will suggest TasteKid to my friend.
