How long does a thrombosed hemorrhoid hurt?

My birthday is in a couple of days, and I have a huge exciting vacation planned. I leave in a few hours. I developed a painful thrombosed hemorrhoid on Wednesday morning, and it's still hurting me a few days later. Unfortunately, I had to sit a lot (driving, work) the last couple of days which probably didn't help. For those of you who have had them, can you remember how long the worst pain lasted? I would feel way less disappointed about this if I could estimate how long the bad pain is going to last. If I knew I just had to be in pain tomorrow but might could enjoy my Sunday and beyond that would be manageable. Obviously everyone is different, but some personal experiences sure would help me feel less stressed!

I am trying every remedy, and I know there's no easy fix, but I'm open to hear your immediate relief ideas if you have a good one!

Not a hemorrhoid but I get thrombosed vericose veins and the pain/clot often hurts for a couple weeks :(.

2-3 weeks. I'm so sorry! They're not serious, but are PAINFUL.

I just experienced this exact problem (yay fun pregnancy side effects!) Here's what my experience was. IANAD so take my advice with that caveat. I also can't confirm that my hemorrhoid was actually thrombosed, but it was very painful and purple in colour.

The 'rhoid appeared last Thursday. By Friday evening, the pain was brutal. I did witch hazel pads and preparation h until Sunday night, but it just kept getting worse. After doing significant online research, on Sunday night I dropped the preparation h and moved to a process of alternating ice cubes placed directly on the rhoid for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off (for 10 mins total) followed immediately by a luke warm bath for 20 minutes. Did that process at least three times a day and by Wednesday morning, the pain was reduced to the point of being a non-issue. The 'rhoid is still there (and decreasing in size each day) but it's really not something I think about.

So in total in my case, pain lasted 6 days. Good luck.

Call your whatever they're called (I call mine my butt doctor) -- they'll take you in immediately and perform the quick snip --the sooner you do this the faster it heals and after the procedure you will start feeling better immediately or at worst tomorrow morning.

Not a personal experience, but a friend who had this after pregnancy said she felt much better after using an OTC supplement for varicose veins.

(Update: she said to look for diosmin and hesperidin.)

if you get it treated urgently, you could get it excised by a physician. After 72 hours that procedure is no longer advised. If you get the excision procedure done, the pain isn't supposed to last more than a few days (at least not significant pain).

Response by poster: For anyone following up, I was able to participate in all our activities with the help of OTC pain meds and ice packs, though it would have been better without this literal pain in my ass. A week and a half later I still am taking some pain meds to relieve the itch; it doesn't hurt anymore, but is slightly noticeable when the meds have worn off. I'm not totally sure at this point if it really was thrombosed, it's sort of hard to tell. It is still pretty swollen, but I'm going to give it at least another couple weeks before I consider a trip to the doctor. Thanks everyone for responding to an embarrassing question!
