[InstantRamenIdentification] HALP!

Had a 5-pack of instant ramen from my local oriental grocery store. They don't have it anymore and I stupidly threw away the packaging.

I normally buy Sapporo Ichiban miso ramen noodles, but they didn't have a 5-pack or 24-pack, so I bought a different brand. They were excellent, but I threw away all the packaging. The workers at the store were not particularly helpful (mainly because they sell about 40-50 brands).

What I remember:
-They were definitely spicy and labeled as such (in what little English was on the packaging)
-There were two large letters of what I assume was kanji to denote (again, what I assume) was the brand name
-Packaging was a dull reddish-orange and white
-Instructions were a little different in that suggested cooking the noodles with the contents of the flavor pack (see below)
-The flavor packet that came with each ramen package had what I assumed to be dehydrated green onions (very big around) that softened as the noodles cooked

Any ideas?

Have you tried searching The Ramen Rater?

Best answer: Would you recognize it if you saw it? This one, maybe? Edit: (Two big words, red, and (in other photos) it has the word Spicy in English.)

Not enough to tell.

Just off hand, two brands that came to mind are 味全 (WeiChuan) or 統一 (TungYi) and both are from Taiwan (though both have countries elsewhere, as Tungyi is also known as UNIF.

Best answer: Definitely check (or ask) the Ramen Rater, but my bet is on Shin Ramyun - bentley above has a picture.

Response by poster: Never saw the Ramen Rater before, so thanks for that!

I think bentley (our family's dog's name!) has it. Especially after seeing the ingredient list, which included dried green onion.

Thanks for your help, I'll be ordering some online!

(by the way, the one in bentley's link, Shin Ramyeon, is the top brand here in Korea and the only one I eat haha. So good.)

Yup. I was born in Korea and lived there until I was 11. Shin Ramyeon is, in my eyes, the number one ramen and the only one I will eat.

Oh yeah, that brand is big in Japan too.

Just had to get that in.

But seriously, it's really popular in Japan

There are, indeed, many amazing instant ramen brands and styles which could match your description and you should continue to try them (I'm a big fan of the Singaporean, Vietnamese, etc. types that have seasoning oil or fried onion packets).

If you like regular Shin Ramyun, and eat meat, you might enjoy trying Shin Ramyun Black, the premium version--it's even more expensive but has an extra broth packet and more and higher-quality dried vegetables, along with a few nubbins of dried beef.
