Travel Planning

I'm traveling between Warsaw and Budapest the first two weeks of September, where should I go and what should I see?

I love cheap good food, museums, architecture, hiking and bicycling, and the sort of places that end up on Atlas Obscura. I really love sitting in cafes, drawing for hours and watching people go by. I have not planned any itinerary at all yet, I am hoping you can help! I am on a fairly tight budget (hostels and air b&b). I am a woman who will be traveling alone.
I would also like advice on a plan of, well, not planning so much. Usually when I travel I have reservations and bus tickets and absolutely everything figured out before hand. I am toying with the idea of having a vague plan but making all the decisions when I get there instead. If you have done this what was your experience like? Was it more expensive? Would it be practical given where I am going and the time frame?

I've been to both cities, but I traveled to Budapest from Vienna so I can't speak to traveling directly between the two. However, the train tickets, when purchased in Budapest, were significantly cheaper than they would be had I purchased them in Vienna for the same train ride. So if you book the tickets ahead of time online, unless it's significantly in advance, tickets might be more expensive that way.

There are free concerts in Łazienki; I'm not sure if they go until September but it seems like it's a general venue for outdoor events.

You can visit the flagship E. Wedel store/cafe; E. Wedel is Poland's chocolate/confectionery company.

Marie Curie museum; definitely ask locals for suggestions. We liked the pub CK Oberza. There is a nice area near the old/ new downtown of Warsaw; that could be a good place to sit and watch the world go by! Enjoy your trip
