Please recommend excellent mockumentaries.

I'm looking for some really top notch mockumentaries after having watched 'What We Do In The Shadows' tonight.

I've seen all of the Christopher Guest and Ricky Gervais mockumentaries, lots of Woody Allen, The Larry Sanders Show, The Rutles, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Kenny and probably heaps more that I can't think of now.

What would you recommend? TV and movie shows welcome.

Best answer: Fear of a Black Hat. I don't know if it holds up, but 1993 me liked it (except for an awful minor gay character). Here's a contemporary essay that talks about it.

Best answer: The Centrifuge Brain Project is only seven minutes long, but every second is perfect.

Best answer: I assume This Is Spinal Tap included in the Christopher Guest movies?

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love Reno 911,.

Best answer: Stephen Fry playing an investigative journalist in TV series "This Is David Lander". It's on YouTube, but blocked here (in the UK); you may have more luck.

Also Chris Langham in "People Like Us", which I remember finding very funny, and having just checked on YouTube, I still do. Confusingly, there is apparently now a genuine reality show called "People Like Us", which is probably less funny. The episode "The Actor" stars a young David Tennant, for those who like that kind of thing.

Best answer: Seconding "Culloden."

Also Incident at Loch Ness, because funny Werner Herzog is basically the best thing in movies. (The DVD commentary is hilarious, too.)

Best answer: Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a clever little meta trick of a movie, a mockumentary about the emergence of a serial killer that is both a loving parody of slasher films and then, somehow, also a pretty good example of the genre.

Best in Show is one of the many hilarious examples of the genre by Christopher Guest and friends, this one about a dog show.

Bob Roberts, as mentioned above, is pretty great with Tim Robbins as the "Republican Bob Dylan."

Man Bites Dog, in which a film c rew follows a serial killer around and he dryly explains his "line of work," is ultraviolent, but savage and funny.

Best answer: bith Look Around You series are not exactly mockumentaries, but mock educational/tele-school (season 1) and pop-science early 80s shows (season 2).

Mike Bassett : England Manager is pretty good if you know the people and thing they're mocking.

Best answer: Rhys Darby, who is in "What We Do In The Shadows" and "Flight of the Conchords," has a really funny mockumentary series called Short Poppies, where he plays a different character in each episode. It's on Netflix streaming.
