What typeface would you use to create the Gizmonics patch on Joel's jumpsuit?

You could get away with Futura, but you might incur the wrath of the more type-obsessed (I guess they'd have to have a damn fine memory as well), because it has some basic but important distinctions, as seen in either of these larger images.

Big diff I see is that the M and N don't slope inwards on the show logo.
Other nitpicky things would be the way the curved portions end. I don't know the name, but take the top of the G... there are two basic ways it could end: Cut straight horizontal, or cut at an angle. Joels looks horizontal. It's then a safe bet that the same goes for "C", and that choice probably informs the design of the S, though I'm not expert enough to really say how.

Also, the G doesn't have a little soul-patch beardy thing, it's a clean curve up to where it cuts back in to the shape.

The O is also unusually (to my eye) tall, suggesting some hand-tweaking.. *shrug*

Trade Gothic is close with a straight-sided O but has a spur on the G. The bar on the Gizmonic "G" seems rather low.

It's not a grotesk or a traditional gothic. The G and C are very round, which suggests a Futura-inspired geometric face. But not actually Futura, because the M and N are not sharply pointed.

The low crossbar G screams ITC to me. I'd guess ITC Avant Garde demi-bold with a zero used instead of the O. Time-period appropriate too.
