Is there a way to force an app to stay open/active on Apple Watch?

I like my Apple Watch so far. But the #1 reason I got it was to take it with me on long bike rides so I could see speed/distance/time at a glance. To my chagrin, after a short time out the cycling app quits, so when I glance down I see the watch face. And because I'm riding I can't swipe around to get back to the app. Surely there's a way to fix this? Or is the OS design that foolish?

Best answer: On your iPhone go to the watch app. Under general scroll down to activate on wrist raise and set it to resume previous activity.

You can also do it on the watch by going to settings -->general -->activate on wrist raise -->scroll down to resume to and change it to last app used.
