Poison ivy? Has she been walking in the wood lately? Wearing shorts and socks so this could have affected her leg just above the socks? If so, calamine lotion may help.

Looks like poison ivy.

It might be hiker's rash (aka golfer's vasculitis), if she was outside and active and got overheated.

It's really hard to identify rashes. Go to the doctor.

Lots of possibilities: poison oak...poison ivy...chiggers...I've also had a similar rash from contact with the oils in mango leaves / skin...or it could be something else entirely.

In my experience, the most likely culprit is poison oak (or ivy or mango). I'd wash the area with shampoo or dishwashing liquid to help remove the oil from the plant and prevent it from spreading farther, take some benadryl, and try not to scratch.

It can take over a week for a rash caused by any of these allergens to go away. If it lasted longer than that, I'd go see a doctor.

Another vote for going to the doctor. Could be shingles, too.

That rash could be many things - one important question is, is it itchy?

Shingles is a blistering rash and I don't see any evidence of blisters in the photo.

Yep, time for the Dr. It looks like poison ivy to me as well, but whatever it is, effective treatment will likely include a steroid cream which can't be purchased OTC.

Drug rash? Certain meds cause rashes frequently located below the calf.
