Attending AA meetings in Delhi and Mumbai for a visitor!

Attending AA meetings in Delhi and Mumbai for a visitor! Hi, I was asked this by someone going to India for a couple of weeks. I know there are meetings in both places but the question was "How easy/difficult is it if you are an American Woman visiting and want to go to a meeting?" This completely floored me as I had NO idea how women friendly meetings are in India, especially if you are a White woman. Please don't impute any racist undercurrents to my query. I am an Indian man myself, and I know first hand how tourists, especially white women, get harassed by all and sundry. I was curious if any Mefiers have any suggestions or experiences that I can pass along to my friend. Thanks.

Well there are women's-only meetings, generally speaking, so they could start by trying those, and maybe ask at those meetings for other good (meaning, where women won't have a problem) local meetings.

I'd ring the embassies in the respective cities and ask. The staff should know or be able to tell her what the situation is. The embassies would have employees that attend/have attended in the past.

A second idea: If she can't find anything that works for her, the internet and phone systems are excellent in both places so she could conceivably teleconference a sponsor or in to another meeting.

Hope she was a wonderful time. I love both of those cities.

Best answer: She could also contact AA World Service office and ask for meeting info and a contact person in that part of the world.

Response by poster: Thank you for all these answers. I already suggested the Embassy/consulate to her.

But the Internet meeting and the AA-World services contact is a fantastic idea.

Thanks!!

Best answer: West Mumbai... ask via contact phone number and email address?

Delhi? In the first instance, suggest addressing India Intergroup via phone or email.

Response by poster: My friend ended up going to meetings in Mumbai. She did not have time in New Delhi. She had some Indian guys she met at her talk help her with moving about so she did not feel out of sorts getting to and from.

Thanks
