Alzheimer Homes in Seattle

I am trying to help take some weight off a friend whose mother has Alzheimer's and whose father (mom's caregiver) suddenly passed away and now must bring her to Seattle.

She is looking for smaller Adult Family Homes (AFH) that cover memory care, pharmaceutical management, in a locked facility with no buy-in in the Seattle area (she lives in Green Lake but I assume quality over proximity). The small 6-10 patient home is the ideal, but with the time frame I think any info about good larger facilities would also be appreciated. AFHs and Dementia facilities are surprisingly underrepresented on Yelp, so I turn to all you Seattleite Mefites! Thanks from all of us in advance.

Best answer: Not quite Seattle proper, but my grandmother spent some time in Wyatt House on Bainbridge Island including some time in the memory care center which I think operates under another name. I wasn't involved in the decision process of picking the place, but she was never anything but happy there and liked it much better than she expected to. As a granddaughter who visited occasionally, the place was always spotless, warm, and friendly and felt like a real community.

Good luck. I know this is really hard and I wish your friend's family the best.

Best answer: There are so, so many of the smaller (6-10 bed) communities that, without a very trusted personal recommendation, it will be difficult for your friend to choose alone. A referral agency like A Place For Mom can help do some of the legwork; they have a wide referral network and have selection criteria that your friend can ask about. Plus, they are generally at no cost to the person searching--the ALFs pay them for the referral, your friend gets help for free!

As a bonus, A Place For Mom is based in Seattle - I'd imagine they've got very good links in the area.
