This painting means a great deal to a good friend - he has no idea who painted it - i would like to surprise him with some background information if possible. Any ideas?

Sorry about the poor quality picture, best i can do for now...

Can you give any more information? Where was it purchased, for what price, what year, decade, etc.?

Yeah.

And.....what is it? Is it a city? In Greece? Tuscany? Do you know? I can't tell what I'm looking at....trees and rooftops? Halp! Link to the reddit thread if it still exists, please?

Is it a painting he owns? How big is it? Where did he get it?

Is it an actual painting, or a print of a painting?

Response by poster: It's a print of a painting. He knows nothing else about it beyond that it has certan memories for him of a different time. It looks like roof tiles in a tuscan type town but that's all i can say. Lastly , the reddit thread was no help, in that nobody replied, yet. I'll cross post anything relevant...

An improved image might help a lot.

How close is this picture? It's looks like a closeup?

Response by poster: nope, that's all of it.

I'm probably frustrating this search needlessly from the outset with my crappy quality snap of it. Maybe i'll repost in a week with a better version. Thanks for your help though guys.

Response by poster: or failing that has anyone got other search strategies?
I have tried google image searches for "mountainside rooftops impressionist", and some results were close but no luck. Are there other sites that i can do searches on that only include paintings for example?

If you get a better snap of it you can try TinEye. I ran it through, but it didn't find anything. Might not work, but it's usually pretty good at this kind of thing.
