Where to forage (ramps, morels, etc) in Northwest Indiana?

Recently moved to South Bend IN from Southern MN. In MN there were plenty of local parks and areas that allowed foraging on their land. Around here it seems every single park disallows foraging. Outside of just going to random people (I don't really know anyone around here) and asking to forage on their land are there any areas that allow for open foraging? I've been seeing ramps coming up and it kills me knowing I can't take them.

A couple of years old, but you might want to read this, from the South Bend Tribune: Local group connects city dwellers with free edibles

Do you have any state forests nearby? It looks like state forestry regulations allow gathering of mushrooms (and nuts and berries) without a permit, and you may be able to obtain a permit for ramps though that is less clear-cut.

You're not far from the Michigan border. Are the rules any different in the next state over?

Best answer: Jasper-Pulaski wildlife refuge allows mushroom gathering and probably more.

Response by poster: I just called Jasper Pulaski and confirmed that they allow collection of ramps! Just have to get out there before turkey season starts!
