How do I become a fight announcer?

I want to become a fight announcer, specifically for MMA and kickboxing. (I'd love to do boxing, too, but I think I'm more qualified for MMA and kickboxing.) Who do I talk to? Where do I go?

I have a lot of experience with martial arts and am very passionate about MMA and kickboxing. Also, I am a voice-over artist, and I'm represented in that field, but most of what I do is industrial instructional stuff and promos and educational stuff.

Should I record a demo and send it out to fight promoters? Should I offer to do fights for free, or would that be a one-way street to me getting exploited?

Best answer: Announcer for broadcast or at the matches? You need to start small and start local. Tell local fight clubs (whatever they are called) you are interested and offer to help out. You may not be able to start announcing right away. When you're getting started, doing it for free is fine. Get some experience and a demo tape under your belt.

Response by poster: Either; but if I had to choose I'd rather be the ring announcer. But I'd love to commentate as well.

Thanks!
