Font ID question

Can anyone identify this font? It's for a tattoo so it needs to be exact, thanks!

I'm not going for a tattoo that duplicates the label; I want the word without the stitching. (Although having the tattoo look sewn on would be pretty cool. I might think about that.)

I found some pictures of their old logo via the Wayback Machine, see:
2000
2004
2009
... but wasn't able to get any matching fonts via the two font identifying sites I tried.

Perhaps you'd like to try browsing through more of the archived copies of the site to see if you can find a more usable version.

This may be a typeface or it may just be custom. There were a fair number of hand-drawn movie titles in styles very similar to this.

Two typefaces I found that look very close are Lexington and Mousse.

Response by poster: Oh, no, it has nothing to do with that company, Web site, or anything that currently exists. It's a family thing. Just to head that off.

This is without a doubt good ol' Brush Script but with a modified capital C.

Oh, yipes, I was referencing Gomez's links above. The actual stitchy one is not brush script. Will need to investigate further...

Do you have any info about how this thing came to be? That might make it easier to find or at least to find out if this is an actual font that can be found or a unique logo.

I would just trace the outline of the stitching and then adjust as needed to make it look good.

Response by poster: The label was produced in the 60s, if that helps.

Best answer: The label was produced in the 60s, if that helps.

It was probably hand-designed then. It’s conceivable that someone has subsequently made a font based on the typeface the label itself was based on, but I’m not finding a perfect match. The closest I’ve spotted — and it’s a bit bloaty — is Letterhead Fonts’ LHF Cosmic Cursive I. The capital C is more embellished, and it's generally heavier throughout.

A decent tattoo artist will definitely be able to hand-draw/trace your tattoo from the photo you've provided. Lettering is a huge part of the job.

I've done some poking around and was able to find some near-matches, but no match.

It is similar to the following, all of which you can look up at Identifont: Samantha Upright, Typo Upright, Sweet Upright, and Fling. But this label has the loop on the "q" and on the "o," and none of those fonts have both of those loops. But they all have a similar balance between cursive and geometric style.

I hadn't considered that, and it opened up a very interesting possibility: I asked my mom about it, and she said my dad designed it!

If true, then this cements my decision to get the tattoo. It's also very possible that my mom had no idea what I was talking about and just made something up. Either way, it's great family lore.

I wanted to play around with it a little in Illustrator but I can import a scan and trace it. It's so exciting to find out that my dad designed it my mom said my dad designed it.
