Holiday Gift for Traveling Brother
November 20, 2014 2:18 PM

I need to figure out a delightful holiday gift for my travelling brother (and perhaps his girlfriend as well). Help me earn Awesome Big Sister Points!

My brother and his girlfriend will soon be travelling from NY to Australia and staying for about a month. After briefly returning to NY, they will then be spending a month in California.

They are in their early 30s and semi-recently moved in together. Both are incredibly busy, creative mucisian-y types. They love whiskey and wine, food, music, movies, clothing, theater... and they have little free time. Stylistically, my brother would be quite at home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (his girlfriend, less so).

I want to get him something(s) that will delight him with its practicality AND awesomeness. My budget is about $60-$70, but could be upped to $100 if (bonus points!) it could be a joint gift for him and his girlfriend.
Something that will make long flights more palatable? Something they can enjoy while they are away from home? Something great that actually has nothing to do with travel?

I don't want to give a lame gift this year, Help!

Find out where the cool, live music venues are in every town that they are staying in and ask if they offer gift cards.

Are they coming to Sydney? When? The Sydney Festival is in January, and there will be lots of cool shows on.

Also, I have observed that tourists get very excited about seeing shows at the Sydney Opera House. Maybe get them tickets to a show there?

You could get them wo tickets for the Sydney Opera House tour. And the official souvenir photo package, a little dorky, but a great momento.

Awesome: Carry on cocktail kit so they can have tasty drinks on that extremely long plane ride? From NYC it's like 24 hours.

Practical: A portable battery pack so that smartphones and tablets don't run out of charge on the long plane ride, or while running around Australia?

Memory foam neck pillows?

Great answers so far!

Just a quick note - his girlfriend is Australian, so maybe not touristy stuff in Australia. :)
