Liverpool UK over Christmas

I'm going to be in Liverpool over the Christmas holidays as I'm planning on going to Goodison Park on Boxing Day. Obviously, almost everything will be closed on Christmas Day but will there be anything open that isn't a hospital? I'd like to drink a lot so booze options most welcome, but really anything that isn't sitting by myself is great.

Pubs often open for a few hours on Christmas Day.

I imagine that there'll be very little open. Have you thought about going to a church service? Even if you're an atheist (I am), going to a cathedral or pretty church on Christmas can be fun, and there's usually less religious stuff than on another day too. Apart from that, as mentioned above, pubs will normally be open for a few hours around lunchtime. Finally, Trip Advisor has this for Christmas in Liverpool.

Many pubs will be open at lunchtime. No doubt one or two will be open in the evening but you'd have to find out where they were, the hotel suggestion in the TA link may be a good one.

Chinese and South Asian restaurants should be open.

Not quite what you asked for, but it might work - White Christmas Liverpool. They put on a Christmas day party for elderly (and less elderly) residents and they're looking for volunteers to help out. The volunteers look fairly young and I would imagine that a number of them are also on their own at Christmas. You could help out at the event and then afterwards hopefully join the other helpers for a festive drink somewhere.

Response by poster: Thanks Busy Old Fool. I have emailed them to ask about volunteering. That's perfect.

If you're not too steaming on Christmas Eve then the midnight mass at the Catholic Cathedral might be interesting. Its a very unusual design for a UK cathedral - in the round. You will be done by 1.30am so can have a lie in xmas day.

The Crown Hotel on Lime Street seems to be taking lunch orders for xmas day so might be worth a punt for a drink. I shouldn't think it will be only one, given the national chains etc. Your best bet for getting a drink is likely to be from 11am, picking up by 12 and then shutting down early, maybe going as late as 3 in some places. No chance at all after that.

There will be probably no public transport on Christmas Day, so be prepared to have to spend more on taxis etc.

Response by poster: Thanks to everyone. I very much appreciate it. I got my tickets to Goodison for Boxing day today so I'm very excited this is all going to be real.
