So has anyone in northern NJ (Essex/Passaic/Bergen counties or thereabouts) recently used a super-detailed, easy to work with home inspection company they'd recommend? Any and all info welcome. Thanks, hive!

I'm checking with a friend in that line of work who happens to be in Jersey. I'll reply when I have a definitive answer.

I had Richard Perri (718-828-9116) inspect Montgomery Clift's house when I was considering buying it. I infer from the NJ road sign on his website that he's willing to work there too.

The forums on Maplewood Online are good for recommendations like this. The home inspector I used a few years ago, Tom Dabb, really knew his way around my 1920 house and gets good reviews, although his inspection seemed a bit cursory to me (at least as a first-time homebuyer). Here's one recent thread that mentions him, and another that mentions some others.
