Events in Montreal?

My hubby and I will be in Montreal from this Thursday night until Saturday night. Are there are any events going on that we should check out? First time in the city for both of us.

Also, what's your favourite restaurant in the area? Any cuisine is fine, just not super fancy. We won't have a car but are not averse to taking public transit. (We're staying at the Courtyard Montreal downtown). Thanks all!

You've missed the festival season, mostly, but did you know we have a class 5 rapids in town? We just did it -- very fun if you don't mind getting wet.

Great French food at reasonable prices. Not cheap, mind you, but you get more than your money's worth: Les Deux Singes de Montarvie, 176 St. Viateur West. Make sure you have a reservation, the place is tiny.

Comic-Con is that weekend.

There's also a modern dance festival and there's a literary festival but the latter seems to be only in French.

The autumn lantern fest has just opened at the botanical garden. That can be a nice experience.

It's true though, you're coming after festival season is mostly over.

The annual Tall Ships visit is supposed to be visiting Montreal's Old Port during that weekend. There are also quite a few other activities still going on in the Old Port area that have not yet closed for the season.
