Is it worth becoming an Apple certified Iphone or Ipad repair technicians?

I am thinking about pursuing a career in repairing phone and tablets, just wondering if anyone can offer me some guidance. Thanks

1) Check local job boards to gauge demand for any relevant job openings

2) Go to a local, busy mall and survey how many people *have used* such a service, how much they paid for it and would they do it again (this is because people have a hard time imagining realistically whether they would use such a service, so better to go with people who have proven with their wallets)

3) Best of all: advertise such a local service on facebook as if you had already done the course and received certification. If you can get 50 locals (facebook allows geotargeting) to sign up for an email announcement of when your service will be available locally and with certain rates, that's a pretty good indicator of local interest

Best answer: I would say that a key factor is the proximity of your population to the closest Apple store. Many people prefer to take their devices to the official stores these days. Not only does Apple cover warranty repairs, they also tend to throw things in for free even out of warranty. Plus they have a lot of the parts right there with no need to mail off and wait for repair.

If your location in your profile is still correct, then I can tell you with 100% certainty that there's plenty of Apple stores nearby (even the suburbs are well stocked) and the Genius Bars are all very busy. No need to pester people at the Galleria with a survey. As someone who would be a potential customer (because I am in your geographic area and own 4 Apple devices), I would only go to the Apple store and never seek out a third party.

If, however, your geographic location was one outside of a major city with the closest Apple store being over an hour drive away, then that's a much different story. Again I speak from experience.

On the other hand, I could see Windows repair technicians easily doing well. Microsoft stores do exist but since there's a wide variety of hardware retailers, the stores are less effective than Apple's. Plenty of people still own Windows machines and repair is much trickier for them to figure out.
