Corrupted Windows XP display

Why does my Windows XP Home display get short, green lines and "vibrates" intermittently?

These symptoms occur intermittently and usually coming out of hibertnate. But sometimes on a cold start the display is corrupted. Sometimes my anti-virus toaster message seems to cause the problems, sometimes not. Plus the mouse (USB MS Optical) gets turned off.

All drivers are current, but I am downloading/installing SP2.

Anyone have any ideas?

Your video card might be dying. I had similar lines show up when I received a faulty video card.

I second the video card. I had the exact same symptoms once my video card fan died, and the GPU started to fry.

It could also be a corrupted motherboard, especially if theUSB mouse is plugged directly into the back of the computer. Do you have any other USB devices that are malfunctioning?
