Question: What song is this?

Songfilter: This one is kind of a long shot, but can someone tell me the name of this rock song based on my sloppy transcription of its notes?

I've been looking for this song for a while and I have the main riff stuck in my head constantly. I'm pretty awful at converting real sounds to a music staff, but I tried today anyway. I've heard this song many times on the radio in the past couple years so if you don't have anything else to do and you have a keyboard next to your computer or Cakewalk or something, it sounds something like: (in 4-4 time, with commas separating measures) F C C# C, C# C# (dotted) C (1/8th note) C# C, F C C# (dotted) C(1/8th note), G (dotted) G# (1/8th) C# C
F C C# C, C# C# (dotted) C(1/8th) C# C, F C C# (dotted) C (1/8th), G (3/4) G#, C# (1/2) C (1/2), C (whole) .
The notes are all in the same octave, I should mention, C being the lowest. Also, I think it is a trumpet performing it and there's vocals in the song somewhere. Does that skillessly rendered piece of music mean anything to anyone or is it just nonsense. If anyone can make sense of it (or point me to a better way of presenting it) I'd be very grateful. I've heard this song often enough to make me think that many of you probably know it. Thanks for looking at it anyway.

Look into Cake. It sounds like Cake, but the transcription is a bit hard to make out.

You should have an email pointing to a sample of Never There. It's not perfectly right, but it's the closest I can think of.

Since it has been answered I feel ok with the mild threadjack of saying that was a really impressive thread, both question and answers.
