Does this software/web service exist?

I'm starting a blog, and I have this hunch that perhaps a service or program exists out there that allows you to: 1) Write, format, and save blog posts, as well as mark them as "ready" to publish, and 2) Automate publishing those ready posts chronologically onto your blog at a fixed rate or alternatively by selecting a publishing date and time for every post marked as ready. The theory being, I could write as many posts as I want on a given day, but schedule and automate their publishing. Does this sort of thing exist?

Apologies if this is something entirely obvious to the rest of the blogging world or if it's non-existent for obvious reasons. I'm sort of swinging in the dark here.

this is a built in function of the Wordpress platform. I assume most other platforms have this function as well.

Tumblr does this and so does Wordpress with a post queuing plugin.

Sorry, didn't realize queuing was core in Wordpress now. Great news.

You can do this with blogger too... I think it's pretty standard!

To follow up a bit on Michaelh's last comment, WordPress does have manual scheduling in core. But if you decide to go with the more automated queueing idea, you'll still need a plugin like the one linked. If your needs evolve, there are others that provide more involved options like only publishing certain days, within certain hours, etc.

Check bufferapp.com; maybe it will solve your problem.
