Yet Another Book Question

Asking for a friend because you guys are so good at this: "I've been trying to find this book I read as a kid for years and I can't find it and it drives me crazy. It had a sword that would let you teleport forward where you point it if you said a name (I think like nicodarius). I think there were three kingdoms fighting over oil?

Can't tell you myself, but the librarians at the children's section at the NYPL are good on this sort of question

I am probably mixing this up with one of the many other books I read as a kid, but could this be either Escape of the Unicorn (published 1985) or the sequel Return of the Unicorn (published 1990) both by Suzanne Lord? They were children's fantasy books printed by Scholastic, and had puzzles mixed in with the storyline. I really liked these as a a child obsessed with my little ponies, and the mention of the teleporting sword and magic name made me think of these titles for the first time in 20 years... But I am not sure if I am misremembering. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
