Dogs of the Dome

I'm listening to Stephen King's Under the Dome on audiobook. I'm on disc 5 of about 30, and enjoying it so far. However, I'm worried about the canine residents of Chester's Mill.

First off - I've never seen the TV show and I don't really plan on it. This question is specific to the book only.

I'm a total softie when it comes to dogs. People can get killed or tortured, cats can get kicked, cute fuzzy creatures can be hunted and cooked up for dinner...but I just can't take it if anything bad happens to a dog. So far in the book there's been murder, accidental horrifying death and dismemberment of humans and animals, and I'm just sitting on the edge of my seat stressed out that the dogs will get hurt. I'm aware of the website Does the Dog Die?. I'm glad to know that there are weird people like me out there who can handle everything BUT canine cruelty, but for now they only cover movies.

So, in Under the Dome, does anything happen to the dogs? I want to know before I invest any more time in this audiobook. I don't want to listen any further if they wind up getting eaten or tortured or anything like that.

Thanks! And, no spoilers please, unless of course it has to do with dogs.

Response by poster: Also - is there anything like Does the Dog Die? for books? It would make my life so much easier.

I have listened to the book 3-4 times and can't remember anything bad happening to dogs. I'm not super sensitive about it though.

Some dogs are killed in the book. I don't know if that's included in the audiobook or not.

The main dog character (Horace) does not die. I have this book on my Kindle, so I can do searches... if you have the names of other dogs in that book, I'd be glad to search. Horace is the only dog I remember offhand.

Ok, thought of another dog, and it does die in Chapter 8. Do you want to know which one?

Response by poster: Aw man. Another dog is Clover, and I can't remember the name of the Doctor's dog off the top of my head.

Hmmph. I don't know about this.

Best answer: Ok, I remembered a third dog (there's Audrey, Clover, and Horace). One dog survives. One is killed in Chapter 8. Another is killed around Chapter 6.

Response by poster: Ok. Thanks, Houstonian (who I contacted via memail for details). I think I'm going to go ahead with listening to the book. I can handle it.
