Vancouver's best curry?

Which is the best curry house in Vancouver?

I say "Curry House" rather than Indian restaurant, as I'm attempting to find the restauraunt which is closest in both taste and ambience to Indian food as it is served in the U.K. I've had several recommendations for places that serve excellent butter chicken, but I've never been a big fan of that, Dansak and Jalfreizis being closer to my tastes. The major criticism of curries that I've had here is blandness, the sauces just don't seem to be as rich or as spicy as the ones I'm accustomed to.

Just in case there is no close analogue to the U.K style curry here, which would you recommend as being your personal favourite to eat in, and why?

La Tandoor in Steveston (southwest Richmond) is excellent. Of course people get Butter Chicken there, but I get a nice lamb or chicken vindaloo and the flavours are -intense-, and I love spicy food. They've never disappointed.

I first fell in love with curries (and Indian restaurants) in England and was somewhat disappointed with many of the places in Vancouver as they weren't as good.

My favourite all-around Indian place has to be Nirvana's, 2313 Main St. Best, most flavourful curries I've had in town. Annapurna over on Fourth near Burrard is good too, as is the India Grill across the street from it (although neither are in the same league as Nirvana's).

Good answers all, thanks - Sounds like Nirvana's the place for me. Hopefully that'll stave off the cravings until I visit the UK again...

There's one on the SW corner of 4th Ave and Burrard (Indian Oven?) that's authentic (buddy's Indian g/f was with us) and (optionally) Western-friendly.
