Will Print Shop Deluxe 1.13 run on OS X?

My mother uses Print Shop Deluxe 1.13 on her Umax SuperMac running System 8.5.1. When she gets her new 20" iMac, will the Print Shop Deluxe software work? Is there an emulator needed/available?

As long as you install the optional "classic" system, she should be able to run it without a problem. I'm using some pretty ancient legacy software and it all runs just fine under classic.

There may be other tools (Keynote? Appleworks? I'm not quite sure what Print Shop Deluxe is; isn't it just a simple page layout package?) that do the same thing better, though.

It will work, running under Classic. Tell her not to be afraid if it doesn't load right away--Classic needs time to start up, and it'll take a while.

She might have some font issues and problems--be sure to copy over any fonts from the old machine to the new one so she doesn't have too much trouble.

It should work under classic but classic does not come with Tiger. It is supported just not provided so you'll have to hunt it down.

It's true that Classic doesn't come with Tiger (the retail box version), but it will come with that new 20" iMac. It'll be on the disc in the box marked "Additional Software". Just make sure that her version of Print Shop runs under OS 9.2; that's what Classic emulates.

Have you considered upgrading mom to the OS X native version of Print Shop? It will run like a dream on that new iMac, integrate with iPhoto, and be an overall much more seamless experience.

If you do go the Classic route, you can set the system so Classic boots when the computer is started. Then there won't be the long load times launching the program that amberglow mentioned.

Just a note to say that, while the vast majority of old OS9 stuff will work with Classic, it's not completely 100%. Personally, I have an NEC PetiScan scanner that works fine on my old OS9 iMac, but won't work with Classic on my OSX/OS9 dual-boot G3/600 iBook (I think OSX doesn't recognize the scanner's driver).
Should you run into trouble with the old version, there is now Print Shop for OSX (you can read a June 2004 Macworld review here).
