Where's the best place to get pie in Bloomington, Indiana?

It's the ninth π Day I've celebrated since I moved to Bloomington, and I still have no good ideas for where to celebrate. Usually we end up getting pizza, which works, but I always have a craving for pie on π Day. Any restaurants in town that have a good selection of quality pie?

Best answer: I've had delicious pies as a dessert selection at these places in Bloomington, though maybe they don't offer pie all the time -- you should probably call ahead and make sure:
1. FarmBloomington 108 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, Indiana 47408
(812) 323-0002
and
2. Feast (on Hillside)

Also, Bloomingfoods has good pies if you want to celebrate at home!

Response by poster: I've been to Feast. Excellent food and good desserts. Bonus for being within walking distance of my house.

I've often found myself disappointed by Farm's savory food (the garlic fries being a notable exception). It all sounds so good on the menu, but I'm usually disappointed when I actually eat it. Not that it's bad, but I guess I'm just expecting more for the money (it ain't cheap). Are their desserts better?

Best answer: If you have access to a car, you might consider hopping over to Nashville (should be ~30m drive) and having some peanut butter pie at the Abe Martin Lodge. Really good stuff.

Bloomington's just not a great pie town. You may have to settle for one of the various grocery store bakeries. Or call and see if Blu Boy's doing pie today; their sweets and desserts are always excellent, but I don't recall ever seeing pie there.

You're too late in the day for Wee Willie's, which does serve pie but closes by 2-3pm. And Gray Brothers up in Mooresville is pretty decent if you like cafeterias and pie.

At least Bloomington genuinely does have the best pizza for a town of its size of anywhere I've ever seen.

Just thought of it: there are at least a couple chain places out on the west side of town that almost certainly have pie: Bob Evans and Golden Corral. Can't say whether those are good options, though.

Best answer: Blu Boys does sometimes do pie, and if they are doing one, I am sure it will be excellent, because they are always excellent. Worth checking.

Response by poster: Apparently not only did Blu Boy have pie today, but they actually had a π Day special. Apple pie a la mode for $3.14. Only apple pie, though.

Got a recommendation elsewhere for the Cozy Table, which sounds like the best idea in general, but today in particular, they were closing down for the spring break weekend and didn't have much left.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind for next year.

Mention the idea to Matt or Regan at the Runcible Spoon. They'd probably think it was a fun idea, and Matt knows his food, so you'd likely end up with something good. That might be a good bet for next year. (If you do that, be sure to tell them Vivian says hi.)
