What is the rest of this website all about?

I only discovered this website because of AskMeFi and that's the only part of the website I use. I realize that's not really the primary purpose of this website, but when I venture over to MetaFilter, I don't really understand how it works.

The list of topics over at MetaFilter seem entirely random and it seems like they are mostly just links to news articles, but not about current events and more about novelty. I'm not sure what would count as something worth mentioning there. Projects and Music and the other sections are just as befuddling.

And MetaFilter seems way less active than AskMeFi -- did AskMeFi inadvertently take over the site as far as traffic? I discovered AskMeFi repeatedly when googling certain things, whether it's health questions, whether I should move to Baltimore, how to bake bread, whatever. It was the only site with consistently useful responses. (Yahoo Answers, on the other hand, is great for consistently stupid responses.) So I decided to sign up to ask questions!

But what's the deal with the rest of this site?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Answer #1 is questions about Metafilter go on MetaTalk! You can repost this there, if you like. -- restless_nomad
