DIY Gift Filter: Give me your best homemade candied/flavored popcorn recipes that last long enough to be suitable for mailing.
For a far-flung aunt, uncle, and cousins, I'm going to make up a "gift basket" of the kinds of snacky stuff they always had for Christmas when my cousins and I were kids. One thing they always had was one of those big tubs of popcorn in multiple flavors. I wanted to make my own instead, though, but wanted to be sure that I found recipes that would stand up to being shipped across the country and then standing around a few days; I'm finding recipes that stay fresh for "up to a week", but hope to go a bit longer if I can.
Thanks!

Best answer: Jayme's Caramel Popcorn is a longstanding favorite on eGullet, and I have empirical evidence that it will stand up to being shipped across the country and then standing around a few days, and much more. I once shipped some to a friend in the first week of December, it for some reason was undeliverable, and only made its way back to me well into January. Obviously God wanted me to have it instead, so I forgot about my friend and ate it. And it was as deliciously crisp and fresh as the day I made it.
I double bag it in Ziploc freezer (freezer, not storage) bags.

I made this chex mix with popcorn and parmesan (I left out the soy nuts) and it was still fine after about a week and a half and would have lasted longer had it not been so yummy.

My chef friend Stacy gave out jars of coconut curry popcorn spice mix (scroll down to the "Bollywood Popcorn" recipe) one year for Xmas. It was teh BOMB. If you're OK with sending a spice mix for popcorn, rather than the flavored popcorn itself, that is.

Response by poster: I'm hoping for just straight popcorn instead of popcorn spice mix (or a popcorn-and-chex mix), because that's what they had.
The caramel corn looks good, and the dark and stormy looks intriguing - keep 'em coming, though! (And I'd also like to find savory flavors like cheese or something.)
