Live Cam?

How do I set up a live camera at my business?

I would like to set up an outdoor live camera at my business so customers can see the goings on in real time. I have a wireless network, server, and website already set up. I have read a few articles and seen cameras available online, but am hoping the hive can offer a little guidance as to the best way to add a live fee to a preexisting website as simply and cheaply as possible, as well as recommendations on cameras, wired v. wireless, pitfalls, or anything else that I should know. Can you help?

I can't help you very much with the technical parts but be aware that there may be state laws regulating recording/transmitting video of people (particularly if there is audio) so check your local regulations.

Consider Dropcam.

Best answer: Dropcam is pretty much designed for this. They have been getting some press about the "Waitcam" at Pizzeria Delfina in SF.

Of course you can go with a typical CCTV setup and feed to your website, but that is probably going to be pricier and have less seamless technology. I have never actually used Dropcam but I am impressed by the fact that their streams just seem to *work.* There is less compatibility/browser/plugin BS than some other feeds, and the quality seems pretty decent.

Nthing Dropcam. I use it for kid watching, but I love watching the Delfina cam!

Wet blanket alert: How will your customers feel about bring on this hypothetical cam?
