Wedding Dance Lessons NYC

Weddingfilter: My fiance and I are getting married in NYC in October, we'd like advice on Wedding dance classes. We'd like personal recommendations if anyone has experience with specific places.

Special circumstances: 1) We are both women 2)both work in theater (on the non-performance technical side) so cost is a factor 3) if my performance on the drums in rock band is any indication I'm not naturally rhythmic Also if anyone has any helpful advice recommendations on group vs. private etc. We don't need a historic wedding dance, just not to look silly. We were thinking of this both as a fun date thing to do and also a way to feel more comfortable at the wedding, not looking to develop a 5 star routine.

Best answer: Ken Kreshtool (bio) is an amazing, amazing dance teacher (and not at all weird about same-sex partnering). I've taken many of his classes for many different dance styles, and most of the classes were filled with engineering types with two left feet. His instruction is clear and fun and the progress we all made was incredible. I would contact him and ask if he's giving private lessons or if he has recommendations for other instructors -- as he's currently working on a book about teaching dance teachers, I'd trust his recommendations. His email is Ken@GottaDance.org.

Best answer: Depending on the song choice you have, the type of dance you do will factor into this. I'd suggest west coast swing - it's simple and can be done to a huge genre of music, and is social and fun so if you want to continue it, is a great hobby!
