Children's book about two kittens on a witch's broomstick

My daughter vaguely remembers a picture book from her childhood (10+ years ago) about two lost kittens who find there way to a witch's house, then stow away in her bag while she flies off to a witch convention (or party?). When they stick their heads out of the bag, their eyes look like headlights in the moonlight, so the witch lets them stay. Does this sound at all familiar? Googling turns up some near misses. It isn't "Room on a Broom," or one of the "Worst Witch" books.

This doesn't actually sound like the plot of Gobbolino, the Witch's Cat, but the two kittens + witch part of the story put me in mind of it. Is it possible that this picture book was a spin-off or reinterpretation of some kind? Gobbolino was first published in 1942, but I remember it being popular when I was a kid -- maybe because of the 50th anniversary in 1992. It's such a great book.

daiseyk: Gobbolino! That could definitely be it. It was adapted for the Storyteller audio cassettes and picture books and that might be the version the OP's daughter remembers. Just did a quick search and found the whole thing on you tube. I loved this story as a kid.

Response by poster: My daughter remembers a shorter story, with the kittens staying together throughout. It might have been inspired by Gobbolino.

Mod note: Final update from the OP:
My daughter mentioned the book to a friend. The friend's mother remembered it! The mystery book turns out to be Two Too Many by Nora Unwin, published in 1962.
