Get rid of review panel in word on mac?

I know this must be very obvious, but I can't figure it. How do I totally and permanently get rid of the review panel (and all inserted comments) on a word document on a mac? Word is 14.1.2. I've tried nearly everything, and each time the review panel comes back again. I manually deleted all the comments but there is still the lavender review panel on the right. THANKS!!

Actually, if you post your answer and best answer yourself, it might be helpful to someone in the future. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a call from my mom before asking me this exact question.

Best answer: In that spirit -- the review panel may still be there if you have a tracked change that hasn't been accepted. Go to the Review menu and hit Next in the Changes area to see whether there's some deleted space or the like that you didn't notice.

Best answer: OK, thanks.
Basically what I did was went over the whole document again and discovered a small leftover inserted change that I had not deleted. WHen I deleted it, the review panel SEEMED to disappear. We'll see if it stays that way!

Maybe I'm missing something, but couldn't you just turn off Track Changes when you're not using it? Turn it back on when you want to see the review panel and comments, if there are any? I upgraded Word (for Mac) this year and don't particularly like the variations from my (very) very old version I'd been using, but I find that just turning off Track Changes when I don't need to see the changes keeps me from being distracted while writing.

You would think that would work, but for some reason it didn't this time. Also, since I needed to submit the document to an editor, I wanted to be sure the panel wouldn't re-appear with other people's comments on it no matter what....

You usually just need to accept all changes and it will be gone. It does mean that all of the changes get made, but if they're so small you can't find them anyway then that's generally not a problem. I haven't used the Mac version specifically, but this is how it has worked in every windows version of Word I've used anyway.
