How is donate.net for online donations?

So, I'm doing my first website for a politician - a progressive guy running for Ohio State Rep. We're going to do donations online and I'd like to use Donate dot net. I'd love to hear about any experiences you've had with them - pleasant or unpleasant - in terms of their technical acumen, customer service, financial account management, honesty, reliability, and the like.
Money is a concern for our tiny campaign, and we'd like to keep all the webstuff as cheap and reliable as possible. One specific question comes out of this: Donate.net has an option without a merchant account that issues a check once a month - could this be a problem?
