Help Me Find Trees & Plants for a NYC Terrace.

I'm looking for a referral to a supplier of quality and reasonably priced evergreen type trees and plants in and around NYC (also LI, NJ, Conn., etc.) This would need to be a store, nursery or garden center that offers delivery to Manhattan. I've been to the "plant district" in the city but I'm interested in researching other alternatives. Looking to purchase in the next two weeks. Thank you.

Really the guys in the flower district are buying from the same vendors as the suburban garden centers. Like I can see the labels on them and its pretty much whomever you would buy from if you went to Martin Viette or Hicks' on LI.

As a general rule the big box stores with nursuries will have the best prices but with a limited selection.

As far as terraces are concerned you need to find things that are more drought, wind, and heat tolerant than a lot of the stuff that the garden centers in the 'burbs will carry. Especially wind.

I gardened on the top floor of an 8 story building in the West Village for five years. But I had access to wholesale vendors.

A have had a lot of luck with the Chelsea Garden Center (not quite in Chelsea anymore). They are really good at knowing what will and won't grow in different situations.

You could also talk to the people who grow plants who sell M,W, F at the Union Square Farmers Market or the Sunday Greenmarket by the Natural History Museum. Not sure where their nurseries are, but I know they sell more than houseplants and herbs if you ask.
