Explain my slightly annoying keyboard problem!

I have a Thinkpad T430
. I can type anywhere up to 120 words per minute. When I type certain words at high speed my system freezes for a split second - long enough to be noticeable and to break my rhythm but not long enough that anyone watching would probably notice. Sometimes it registers the key-presses, sometimes it doesn't. What's going on here?

A few points:
I noticed this pretty much immediately after I bought it. It hasn't been enough of a problem to justify sending it back or replacing it, so I guess I'm more after an explanation than a solution, although speculation and solutions are welcome.
I tried out a friend's Thinkpad and found the same thing so I assume it's not a malfunction as such. Sometimes I feel like it transposes the key-presses but rigorous testing suggests that's probably in my mind. If you have one of the newer Thinkpads with "island" keys you can test this out with the word "idea", as that's probably the most common trigger for me.
