I'm about to introduce an older deaf man who is not good at learning new technology (but is quite smart) to a new iPhone running OS 7. I am looking for some good advice on how I can help him master use of the device for his needs.
He is buying this phone chiefly to have a lifeline to contact friends and family in emergencies using an app from Hamilton Captell.
I am fairly confident I can instruct him on this, but if you have experience with using the voice recognition software they have developed I really want to hear about any issues I might encounter.
However, I also want to give him opportunities to take advantage of all the capabilities of the phone for real time news and information. He is an avid sports fan (Chiefly NFL or College football/Basketball/and Golf), deeply invested in the stock market, and very interested in journalism (he is a retired newspaper editor) and...ugh...he will want the Fox News app. :P Basically, I want him to be turning to this phone a lot and find it easy and natural to use if he does need it for the emergency reasons. Anything you can give me to help explain to him how to do it will be useful.
OS 7 is new so I don't know if there are any good tutorials for seniors out yet, but I could use a link to something like that if it has captions. Otherwise, any information you think I might need to make this work and be a good teacher would be very welcome.
Sorry if this is a bit more open-ended than AskMe usually goes for, but I don't know precisely what to ask.
