I'm thinking of returning to school (I have a BA) to become a teacher. What are your experiences, stories, insights, and words of caution?

At 28, I am in career self discovery mode and looking at a lot of options. I'm trying to balance it all out in my head. One minute I want to be an electrician, the next minute, a court stenographer. At every turn I weigh the options, look at the job openings in the field in my area, look at the education opportunities.
I have a BA in International Studies, speak Portuguese fluently and Spanish conversationally, and am now considering becoming a teacher of civics/history/government to middle/high school students. I want to invest time and money on a track that is good for me. I really enjoy interacting with all kinds of people, have a very extroverted personality, love to learn, enjoy a challenge, am good with kids (oldest of six here), and am great at conflict resolution (worked in politics (U.S. House) the last 5 years).
Mefi, what is your experience going back to school and earning this certification? What pitfalls would you avoid? Tell me about becoming a teacher and things I need to know. I have an appointment with a counselor at my local university tomorrow morning. What questions should I ask him/her?
