Windows program that thumbnails photos and videos?

Can anyone recommend a program that reliably thumbnails photos and videos?

Will be used on a Windows 8 system, I know Explorer can do this but it's horribly unreliable and periodically loses its thumbnail caches.

Prefer free but will pay for something really, really good. Should be able to sort by date, type, size; able to thumbnail a very broad range of file formats; and should have different display options--list, small icons, large icons, etc.

Irfanview is free and has a very good reputation, but I am not sure it will do everything you are asking for. Just figured you would want to check.

I came here to recommend Irfanview. It will do what you need with plugins.

ThumbsPlus is not free, but it is outstanding and well worth the fee. You can download a demo to try it out. (I think it's fully functional but time-limited.)

Response by poster: Thanks I'm a longtime Irfanview user but didn't know it could do video. Will also give Thumbsplus a look.
