Can you please just stab me repeatedly with a needle?

I am trying to schedule getting a tattoo appointment with an artist I have previously worked with. It's proving to be more difficult than expected, and I don't know how long to wait between messages and how direct to be with him (I have generalized anxiety disorder). Snowflake-y details inside.

This artist has previously tattooed me (three times, actually) and I have never had difficulty scheduling with him before. He has recently started working out of a new shop and working at a guest artist at another. He does all of his booking directly and encourages contact via Facebook, email, or text message. I find scheduling appointments in any way to be a trigger for my anxiety and I almost always end up feeling like an idiot.
I sent him an email back in August to let him know that I was planning out a larger tattoo as a birthday gift to myself and would be getting ahold of him in September sometime to schedule. I messaged him via Facebook on Sunday morning and saw that he read it later that morning but he didn't reply. I waited a couple of days and shot him a text yesterday to let him know I was trying to get ahold of him to schedule an appointment. He replied "Hey, how are you?" which I found a little strange. I said I had been busy and asked how he had been. He said that he was busy as well, and had been guest spotting in a nearby town. He hadn't yet mentioned making an appointment so I asked if he had any openings in the next week or two. He then asked me when I wanted to come in and I suggested September 23rd/24th (next Monday or Tuesday). He said he didn't know where he would be, but he would get back to me and let me know.
That conversation happened yesterday around 11 am. I haven't heard back from him yet. I would really like to make an appointment with him because my birthday is on the 28th and I was hoping to get tattooed before then (I'm getting a portrait of my father and I and the photo was taken almost exactly 14 years ago, so it's important to me that I get the tattoo fairly soon). I would have scheduled my appointment farther in advance but my artist doesn't do appointments really far ahead of time. I love his work and he's exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't know if I should text him and ask if he has found anything out or just wait for him to message me back... I need to know if I'm going to be able to get an appointment because I will have to make sure I'm off work and the dates I mentioned to him are less than a week away. I feel so anxious messaging him and feel like I'm being annoying... I almost get the feeling that he's trying to blow me off and I should find another artist who will make an appointment quickly when I contact them (but then again, maybe I'm too business-like and don't know anything about tattoo etiquette?).
Any advice is so appreciated and if you think I should try messaging him again, what would you say? Thanks!
