To cover or repair my device

I dropped my tablet and shattered the screen pretty substantially. It is now leaking glass infrequently. If I get a screen protector, will that solve the problem, or do I need to have the unit repaired?

If the answer isn't obvious, then I'm not clear on the question.

By "leaking glass" do you mean shards of glass are still falling out of it from time to time? How is the tablet even usable with a shattered screen?

"Solve the problem" is overstating, to put it mildly. It might work while you wait to get the repair kit from iFixit, but I wouldn't use it past that.

Response by poster: The outer screen is cracked but the inner screen is still fine. When I rub the screen splinters of (plastic?) come off occasionally.

If you purchased the tablet with a credit card, check into the purchase protection. You claim it as a loss and submit pictures, and if your claim is approved, you can get a check to purchase a new one or repair it. I dropped a tablet and ended up having to just get a new one, and tat $250 payment came in handy.
