backing up psx with os x

How do I make backups of playstation (psx) games I own with OS X? I was given a "chipped" playstation, and I've been buying cheap originals at the local Rhino games. I want to back them up so that my kids (ages 8, 5, 4, 1.5) can trash the copies rather than the master copies. I'm not trying to be sneaky pirate guy.

In fact, bittorrenting psx games is more trouble than it's worth when they are seven bucks for a used cd.

Are you looking for a software recommendation? Playstation CDs are just standard CDs, use any CD writing program and do a disc copy, voila...

All the magic is in the mod chip, not the copying process.

Of course, I would never do anything like that, heavens no!

This page explains what you need to do. You might be able replace Toast with the built-in burning functions within the OS X operating system; the OS X Disk Utility application will create hybrid discs of the ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge and Joliet with Rock Ridge extensions. Otherwise, Toast would be a separate purchase.

You can use Disk Utillity to create an image of the disc, then burn that image to a new black disc. It won't futz around with the contents.

You don't need to use black CD-R blanks; any kind will do.

x-roast cd, a ported x11 application, seems to be the way to go.
