MefiBotonists - can anyone help me identify this ... orchid(?)?

My dad received this from one of his students - can anyone identify this or, even better, offer optimal care conditions? Is this an annual/perannual? Thanks!

Best answer: Phalaenopsis orchid, they're supposed to be terribly easy to care for.

It's a phalaenopsis. I wouldn't care to venture the hybrid name, but this and this are pretty similar.

The idplease group on flickr is good for stuff like this, however I stumped them with my last post. Since this one has been solved, anyone mefi-ites wanna tell me what the hell this plant is called?

It's a Winged Euonymus, and all the leaves have fallen off. Lots of varieties of Euonymus grow in that region.

Response by poster: iconomy - two in a row - wow, is botony a hobby or work?

(I knew someone, once, who could name *any* bird in North America on sight...)

It's a combination of the two, PurplePorpoise.

I used to be able to name any North American car on sight... ;)
