Ok, so I have this wonderful option of going back to school full-time (quitting my job) next year for about 18 to 24 months. Originally, I had hoped to get a Masters in Speech Pathology, but there are only 2 programs offered in Memphis. One needs 2 more semesters of pre-reqs and is pretty pricey. The other just has limited space and I am not young or competitive enough to get in.
I applied and they barely had the interest to respond, to my questions of how I can improve my chances for acceptance next time, with anything other than 'we have few, in-demand spots in the program and can be exclusive.'
Next is an accelerated BSN program- I do think I would really love nursing (I already work in a hospital as a clinical researcher). I have my pre-reqs. in order, etc.
My question is...what am I missing? I want to do clinical work. I have a Bachelor’s degree and I am willing to take another 3 or 4 pre-reqs if necessary, but I need to conserve resources and I am 42, (need to make the career change sooner than later). I have thought about Respiratory Therapy & PTA, but I am not sure what else is out there that I am just not hitting on. I really want to be able to provide a clinical service...any suggestions?
I need to make the most out of the time and the money for school.
