What's another word for "customizable region?"

I'm looking for a word that represents the defining region upon which insignia is attached on clothing. Contrived example, I have a military coat. On the coat, per regulation, I am allowed to sew a badge on the upper left shoulder and the lower left shoulder. I've been using 'region' or 'customizable region' to refer to the target areas for attachment, but it seems like there should be a better, less overloaded word. Any ideas?

garment location? attachment point(s)?

What about attachment point, or attachment area?

Are these fixed-size areas where interchangeable insignia from a specific set go or just general areas where you can stick whatever you like? Gamers would use the word slot or socket for the first kind.

The location on the garment is static. The insignia at the location are interchangeable.

Well, for those 'design-your-own-t-shirt' sites, they often refer to a 'print area'. I take it these insignia are not printed on, so perhaps a more generic 'design area'?

Patch, or [something] patch? eg. Shoulder patch, chest patch, pocket patch. Or less specifically: logo patch, brand patch, insignia patch.

Just as a sanity check, the US Navy uniform insignia regulations (the first one I found) don't talk much about "areas", but give specific locations such as:

3. Position. Rating badges are sewn on the left sleeve of Service Dress Blue Jacket, Dinner Dress Blue Jacket, and Dinner Dress White Jacket centered on the sleeve midway between the shoulder seam and the elbow.

OR

a. Long Sleeve Khaki Shirt. Center the insignia 1 inch from the front and upper edges of the collar. This procedure applies whether the collar is worn open or closed.
