What should I be looking for in finding a dietitian? Recs for DC area?

1) How do I go about finding a dietitian for help with weight loss? 2) Does anyone have recommendations in the Washington DC area?
Preferences and particulars below the fold, but even just general advice on those 2 questions would be helpful really.

I know a lot about nutrition, and my mom is an experienced registered dietitian so I really grew up with a lot of solid knowledge. However, as much as I love my mom, I don't think this is something I want to work on with her, given the mother-daughter fightyness potential. I think it would be good to talk to a professional about my diet objectively and get feedback on how I eat, and check in with about healthy eating for weight loss. I don't know how to go about finding this type of person however.
I have some other medical issues as well (heart disease and diabetes run in my family, thyroid, fatigue, depression/compulsive eating tendencies, that kind of thing). Someone who could incorporate mindful eating strategies and an understanding of the mental health component of nutrition would be great - things like meditation etc are not too woo for me, but anything that flies too much in the face of science wouldn't work for me either. Any suggestions how to go about finding help? And, if you are in the DC area or Maryland, and specific references welcome too. Thanks.
