This is a long shot

There's a particular comedy actor I've seen in a few movies (which I can't remember) and I'm trying to identify him. I don't have much to go on here but maybe you guys can help.

I seem to remember him playing some kind of university dean or professor fairly often. He's a white guy, full head of hair (never seen him with gray hair, I think he has dark hair) tanned, large head, full cheeks, kind of squinty. He's the kind of guy who you can really picture presiding over some kind of gathering of high society gentlemen in a stuffy smoking room in a silk robe with a cigar. Gregarious, authoritative. He's not Eugene Levy or Chevy Chase. I'm sorry I can't provide any more clues but I really just have this vague impression of this guy. Any wild guesses at who it might be would be appreciated. I think he's probably in his late sixties by now.

Response by poster: Not John Vernon, not James Rebhorn, not Paxton Whitehead. Thanks for the guesses, though.

I don't think he's ever played a Dean or Professor, but the rest of the description reminds me of Ray Wise

Response by poster: You may want to throw out the professor/dean thing if it opens up the field to more guesses, it could just be an errant hunch. It's not Ray Wise. Similar kind of "air of high class" from him, though.

Response by poster: Ah! Somebody on IRC finally figured it out. I was thinking of Fred Willard.

Sorry for bothering ask metafilter with this very terrible question. Thanks for guessing everyone.
