Wanted: online filter/effects centric image editing tools

I use Pixlr to create images for my art/history blog because Pixlr has tons of filters and effects that streamlines the process and because it is actually fun to use. Problem is, using the same filters in Pixlr gets old so I'm looking for similar online image editing tools that are easy to use and effects/filter centric.

I am open to suggestions about less ordinary editing/processing tools, creating gif animations, generating glitch/pixel/grunge art, etc, because this could create an interesting contrast to the blog posts which feature historical illustrations which I treat very conservatively (only cropping).

Response by poster: Both seem really interesting! I've also been looking at stuff like processing but that seems to require much more work.
