trying to find a picture book from my childhood...

I remember a book we had as kids that was about a man with an amazing flying bed. I think it was called "Mr (somebody)'s amazing/magnificent/fantastic (?) bed" or something along those lines. It has unusual illustrations and was a really exciting book, he would go flying on this crazy bed at night. The cover was orange. A picture book. I've googled like crazy but can't find it. Anyone recall anything like this???

Response by poster: Thanks @jonathanbell but no. Though that book looks good... unfortunately it's 65 pounds on amazon! I am trying to find some great picture books to get my daughter, because I'm sick of reading all the ones we have. So if you have any other recommendations of great picture books, please give suggestions!

There's also Sylvia Plath's The Bed Book, which is full of wonderfully inventive beds.

Can I ask your daughter's age and what exactly you mean by 'picture books'? I have a 4 year old girl and we have lots of great books, I'd be happy to share the ones we enjoy reading to her now if there's any similarity in age.

My daughter loved the "Good Dog, Carl" books.

Response by poster: My daughter is 2.5 but (at the risk of sounding boasty...) her reading age probably goes up to 4... great attention span... though she still loves "baby books" as well.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Response by poster: alas, no, @saltwater! thanks though! The subject of the book was a single man, he was the only character.

Aha, okay, here are some of the ones that we enjoy (apologies for stuff that you've already got of course):

The Pigeon stuff (this one is my favourite: The Duckling Gets a Cookie)
Scaredy Squirrel
Paper Bag Princess
Me... Jane
Gruffalo and Gruffalo's Child
Lost and Found
There's a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake was a favourite of my little sister... it looks like it's out of print though.
Olivia
Fancy Nancy

Okay, that's it for now. I tend to pick up a few more by any authors that I like but the ones above are either my favourites or the ones that got me introduced to a particular author.

They do love to keep reading the same books over and over though. Sometimes we turn it into a play and act out the book, and sometimes she reads it to me (she can't read, she's just memorised it) - and sometimes we get a teddy to read it or we talk about some aspect of the story; just to spice it up and stop the adults from shooting themselves from all the repetition!

Enjoy!

Response by poster: Again, no, @lil' ears, but thanks for the suggestion! seems there's a few flying bed books out there. Maybe the one we had was rare.

Thanks for all those suggestions @HopStopDon'tShop ! We actually HAVE Hippopotamus on Our Roof... still from our childhood, it IS a great book :) Love the Gruffalo ones. Will look at the others. thanks.
