Lost a ring. Can Visa protections or other insurance help?

Lost a ring. Can Visa protections or other insurance help? Also, is it time to call a hypnotist? Any other ideas?

We lost a ring somewhere between home and a parking lot. The parking lot is most likely. Searched the lot, let the business know it was missing. Filed a lost property report with the police. Called the local pawn shops to put them on alert and put a lost item up on Craigslist.

We'd only had the ring for less than a week. I'm researching the Visa protections and it appears they wouldn't offer any coverage. The renter's insurance company doesn't cover lost items unless they were lost by theft or natural disaster.

Anything else we should try? It's possible the ring was simply misplaced at home too. The house is presently being turned upside down and shaken thoroughly.

Thinking broadly, has anyone ever had a hypnotist help them find something? Are there people who are specialists in finding things lost in a home?

Rent a metal detector? It's how an acquaintance found a ring lost while gardening, but presumably you'll turn up a lot of other metal things in either the parking lot or your house. And this is only useful if it just happened.

Lost and misplaced aren’t the only options.
I lost my wedding ring for a couple months and spent a lot of time searching before I found (not remembered) that I’d put it in a secret pocket so I didn’t lose it during some activity. Ring any bells?

I doubt anyone is going to cover the loss of your ring (or anything else) under some sort of blanket policy that you already have even if only for no other reason than it'd be way too easy to commit fraud against this sort of insurance. What's to prevent anyone from "losing" a ring just long enough to get reimbursed for it?

It sounds really crazy, but it's only ever failed me twice (and one of those times was a set of keys that fell to the bottom of a river).

Say the prayer to St. Anthony. We say, "Dear St. Anthony, please come down, my _______ is lost and must be found."

There are a few tricks to this. First, you have to truly believe it will work. Second, you have to say it in all possible places the item was lost (so in your case, house and car and parking lot). Third, after saying the prayer, spend a few minutes meditating on the object. Visualize it, think about where it would like to hide. Usually I will get a flash of inspiration--oh! I bet it fell out of my pocket and is in the well between the car door and the seat! Once you've done those things, then you can either keep looking, or straighten up the house, or just go about your business and trust that it will turn up. That part is up to you. Lastly, and most importantly, once you find it, you have to thank St. Anthony.

If that's too woo-woo for you, there were some good tips in this recent thread, and I'd also recommend looking in the parking lot one more time and looking up high on the chance that someone found it but didn't turn it in. Where I live when people find things on the ground, they will try to put them at eye level--hook an earring through a chain link fence, put a mitten on a mailbox, etc.

I'm researching the Visa protections and it appears they wouldn't offer any coverage.

I'm inferring from this that you bought the ring using a Visa card? Call up your card issuer and ask them if you are protected. Different cards offer different programs and you have to find out about your specific contract.

At the insistence of a jeweler, I purchased specific jewelry insurance. I am not sure how this works, (voodoo?),but I have not lost any jewelry since then. My valuable jewelry (pathetically little of it) is identified on the policy.
Oh I forgot! A few months ago, I did lose a cute little ring made of red crystals. I did not think to file a claim for $6.00. I suspect there is a pile of red dust in a certain parking lot.

Do you know anyone who has a "talent" for finding things? A person I know is great at finding lost objects through perseverance and great eyesight. A friend of mine found a small diamond that had fallen out of my ring in the grocery store. Ask around in your circle of friends and see if anyone is a finder.
